The NagWAG Diaries – 1st September 2010

This weekend was Alan King’s Open Day at Barbury Castle; Choc went to see all the owners and their horses up at the gorgeous racing yard in Swindon. This was the second visit up to the yard this week for my husband as he went to watch the team ride out and school first thing on Thursday morning.

It is very frustrating for him seeing other people/jockeys on his horses when all he wants to do is get on them and get a feel for them before the winter racing begins. But for now he will have to keep both legs on the floor and just help as much as possible from there.

I mentioned in my last blog that he had an important appointment with his surgeon, the result was great news and finally after a very long six weeks the metal brace supporting Choc’s knee was removed. To begin with his knee felt very unstable and weak but one week on, several physio sessions later and a huge range of exercises he is coming on leaps and bounds. The machine in the picture is a mini bike, borrowed from Oaksey House and helps with the rotation of his knee joint and stretches out the new knee ligaments.

To celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary I took Choc to see ‘War Horse’ at the theatre in London last week.

We went down on the train and stayed with some family friends for the night before our day out in the capital, firstly we visited Harrods to have a look at all the amazing things. The pet shop area was mind-blowing I have never seen anything like it in my life, full of the most extravagant collar, bowls and pet outfits. One gorgeous pink collar that caught my eye for puppy was £300! We also had a quick look at the baby area and found the buggy we would like for our baby, although we won’t be buying it from there!

The theatre was amazing; War Horse was originally a children’s story about a horse’s journey through the First World War. The theatre production has made all the horses into fantastically life-like puppets made from wood and tells the amazing story. It was so moving and made me shed a few tears. Really worth a visit if you have a chance, we highly recommend it. Choc has never been to the theatre before so his first experience was a huge success.

Last week I had my last few days as a nanny, I have finished work and have all this spare time on my hands so I am starting to think about decorating and furnishing the baby’s bedroom. I will be getting my paint brushes out this week to make the room a bit more colourful before I go furniture shopping. I can feel the baby kicking so much now; it gets quite uncomfortable in the evenings when I am sitting on the sofa quietly or lay in bed reading. Bending down to pop shoes on is also starting to be slightly challenging although I imagine these things are going to get a lot worse over the next few months.

Sending a very quick good luck to my younger sister Sarah who is moving to London this week to start her new advertising placement job, after four years at Uni.

Have a great fortnight everyone.
